Fighting for our Rights! Conference in Brussels

October 12, 2006

Inclusion Europe and its partners are pleased to invite you to the Conference "Fighting for our Rights! The use of anti-discrimination laws to protect people with intellectual disabilities".

Considering the scope of positive effects of anti-discrimination laws on the situation of people with intellectual disabilities, anti-discrimination legislation is currently one of the most important issues at European level. Inclusion Europe has been very active in supporting the implementation of anti-discrimination laws at the very best, ensuring that the special needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families are taken into account.

The Conference will be held on 27 and 28 October 2006 in Brussels at the Hotel Tulip Inn. It will be an unique opportunity to discuss in depth disability-based discrimination with the partners who have worked in their country to promote the non-discrimination legislation, and can report about real cases of discrimination.

Participants will debate on the following issues:

Achievements of non-discrimination policy at European level, including the case law regarding disability-based discrimination. The findings and outcomes of the projects will be presented and discussed.

Two workshops will give the opportunity to debate on cases of discrimination in employment and occupation in concrete terms. How can we improve the legislation? How can the organizations support people with disabilities, victims of discrimination?

Challenges, policy orientations and lobbying strategies for the following years in order to complete and achieve a comprehensive legislation as well as promoting good practices against discrimination.

If you are interested in participating at the conference, please write an email at secretariat@inclusion-europe.org or phone the +32 2 502 28 15 to get the programme and the registration form.

The conference is organised in the framework of the Community Action Programme to Combat Discrimination, http://www.stop-discrimination.info.
