Education Conference: Diverse Talents for the future of Europe

February 10, 2012

International conference “Diverse talents for the future of Europe” will be held in Brussels on 5-6 March 2012. The conference is organised by the Federation of Active Associations of Belgium (Fedactio), an umbrella organization endeavouring for social cohesion together with a number of universities and institutions.

The conference builds on the Europe 2020 Strategy, which emphasises the role of education and aims, among other things, to reduce school drop-out rates and increase the level of education for everyone. With this ambition in mind, the conference will challenge today’s situation at the academic, political and educational level and put forward a new vision on the talents of immigrant youth. By pointing out the importance of grassroots initiatives, civil engagement will be highlighted as a possibility to reduce the gap between education and the labour market.

The conference will gather researchers, policy makers, civil society organisations and practitioners from the education sector to discuss three key issues:

  • Which educational policies are needed to meet the Europe 2020 targets?
  • How can all young people, including those from an immigrant background, be given opportunities to develop their full potential and contribute to Europe’s future?
  • How can partnerships between schools and civil society, including the immigrant communities, contribute to achieve the European education ambitions for 2020?
