Poverty and Political Extremism: The Maoist Insurgency in Nepal

Tremendous controversy exists over the relation between poverty and political extremism/terrorism. Some claim much contemporary political extremism is rooted in socioeconomic deprivation, while others question such claims pointing out that terrorists and their supporters do not come from the poorest of the poor.
This seminar examined this general debate and its policy implications for international development through one case study: the Maoist insurgency in Nepal.
