Debating European Frames on Gender Equality: Three Levels of Analysis

Systematic comparative research into European gender equality policies enabled new debates and new questions. As a start for further development of theory and practice of gender equality policies, three crosscutting questions structured an overview of European frames on gender equality: how did gender equality policies dealt with other inequalities? Who had a voice in gender equality policies? What was public and what was private in gender equality policies?

Mieke Verloo combined working as Senior Lecturer at Radboud University Nijmegen with being the Scientific Director of QUING , a comparative research on gender equality policies in Europe (the project concluded in 2011), at the IWM in Vienna. At the IWM she also was Research Director for MAGEEQ. Her research experience lies mainly in the field of equality policies, feminist methodology, and social movements. Since the early 1990s, the analysis, development, and design of gender equality policies have been at the heart of her research, consultancy, and teaching. She is increasingly linking attention for strategies against gender inequality to other axes of privilege and power, such as race/ethnicity and sexuality.
