CPS Seminar: Mapping Backsliding in the European Union
Date:
Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - 11:00am to 12:30pm
In the frame of the CPS Seminar on November 9th, the Transcrisis team presented the research findings of mapping backsliding in the European Union.
12 years after the first round of eastern enlargement, amidst the economic crisis and a series of Eurosceptic parties coming to power has there been backsliding in EU member states' commitments to liberal democracy. The TRANSCRISIS project team at CEU investigated this in three major areas of concern:
- the rule of law (constitutional safeguards and independent institutions): Nick Sitter
- corruption (including corruption control): Agnes Batory
- equality policy (gender, race and disability): Andrea Krizsan and Viola Zentai
