New position at CPS (SPPIA): Placement Officer

The School of Public Policy and International Affairs, CEU invites applicants for a Placement Officer position ideally starting in late fall 2011.

The School of Public Policy and International Affairs is being launched at Central European University in Fall 2011 as a major new academic institution with global ambition committed to academic excellence, educating political and social entrepreneurs and improving policy-making on the critical challenges of our time. The mission of the CEU School of Public Policy and International Affairs is to promote advanced knowledge of public policy through research, teaching, and practice. The core focus is on the just, legitimate, and efficient delivery of public goods by public, private, or civil society actors at the local, national, regional, transnational, international or global levels. Promoting civic engagement is an essential part of the School’s mission, and will be pursued in the various degree programs and through executive education and outreach programs. The School builds on new and existing CEU resources, including the Department of Public Policy, the Department of International Relations and European Studies, the Department of Political Science, and the Center for Policy Studies.   


Duties and responsibilities:

The SPPIA invites applicants for a Placement Officer position ideally starting in late fall 2011.The position will be based at the Center for Policy Studies. The responsibilities of the successful candidate will be two-fold: securing internship placements for MA students and developing a visiting practitioner scheme for SPPIA. In terms of internships, the Placement Officer’s main responsibilities will be to ensure that MA students are provided with a wide array of high quality and relevant internship positions.   This will involve managing the existing set of placements and extending the range of organizations in line with the interests of students and faculty.  The second main responsibility is to help develop and organize a new program for visiting practitioners.  The aim of the scheme is to bring additional practical policy experience to support the teaching, research and development in the new School.   The Placement Officer would work closely with faculty of the School in order to design and arrange the content and format of short or longer term programs for visitors, including but not limited to running short courses, presenting case studies, advising student projects, etc. 


Qualifications:

  • Excellent graduate degree in the social sciences, education or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in the private, public and/or non-profit sector; developing relations between universities and public, private and civic actors;
  • Self-driven, entrepreneurial team player with excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to represent CEU in diverse settings;
  • Commitment to promoting the values of an open society in a global age;
  • Outstanding command of the English language.
