Call for paper: Sustainability in Central and Eastern Europe
The international online journal, Employment and Economy in Central and Eastern Europe (EMECON) launched a call for paper on the topic of sustainability in Central and Eastern Europe.
Qualitative growth is poised to replace quantitative growth. Whether it be the European Commission putting an emphasis on sustainability and new recycling, or trade unions calling for more green jobs, the need for a shift in industrial policy towards more sustainable production is omnipresent. Governments, particularly in Western Europe, have embarked on an energy turnaround and have financed innovation in renewable energy and other innovative products. Industry has become interested in new forms of production like carbon-free production or cradle-to-cradle. This reflexive modernisation is not as widespread in Central and Eastern Europe, where catch-up and welfare growth are still the dominant discourses/perceptions regarding the real economy. Therefore the special issue of Emecon calls for papers that document green initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe concerning production, green investments, green jobs, or green corporate responsibility. The green economy is perceived as a vital path to maintaining industrial production in Europe in addition to offering better working conditions.
We welcome papers from various disciplines that lead to a better understanding of the recent economic restructuring, as well as contributions from cultural studies that enable our readers to understand the backlash in the greening of Central and Eastern Europe. Comparative as well as single-country studies are very welcome.
Deadline: 15th March 2013
Please submit papers to the editors: Dr. Katharina Bluhm and Dr. Vera Trappmann.
Submission guidelines can be found at at www.emecon.eu.
