Winter school : New skills and occupations in Europe: Challenges and possibilities

September 4, 2013

The Center for European Policy Studies is organizing a winter school on new skills and occupation in Europe between November 25-27, 2013 in Brussels.

This winter school is designed to give participants a clear understanding of the role of new skills and new occupations in European labour markets. New skills have potential to further promote inclusive growth in various ways. However, there are worries that European labour markets will suffer from skill-to-occupation mismatch. The first day of the winter school will focus on the origins, measurement and solutions of matching skills and occupations in Europe. During the second day we will discuss measurements of new skills and occupations in Europe with Internet-based data. The final half day will concentrate on students' own work, student Poster sessions and on-the-spot discussions and networking.

The winter school is aimed at PhD students, early-stage researchers and practitioners. The programme is tailored to:

  • master’s and PhD students wishing to acquire interdisciplinary competences in labour market and new skills analysis;
  • practitioners who primarily deal with skills and labour market analysis;
  • others with experience or an interest in undertaking interdisciplinary research in skills analysis and measurement.

Candidates for the winter school are asked to fill in the online application form, including a short statement of motivation. Participants are also expected to submit an abstract of a paper or research task related to new skills in Europe. Applications will be evaluated by HIVA-KU Leuven, CEPS and SOFI and candidates will be informed whether their applications have been accepted by 15 October 2013.

Application deadline: September 30, 2013

Participation in the school is free of charge, and participants may receive reimbursement of travel and subsistence costs.
