The two-day workshop strove to place the Center for Applied Policy Research at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich (CAP) project to establish an international ranking of open societies alongside other country rankings and reports, compare these projects, exchange experiences and methodological approaches and define what is unique and innovative about a country ranking of open societies.

The workshop was organized jointly by the Center for Policy Studies at the Central European University and the CAP with invited participants from the Political Science Department at the CEU, EU Accession Monitoring Program of the Open Society Institute, Budapest (EUMAP), Freedom House and the Global Democracy Award Project.
