Anti-Americanism and International Relations

The workshop on US foreign policy and anti-Americanism offered an opportunity for academics to present their research that had been commissioned specifically for this event. The main goal of the workshop was to investigate anti-Americanism in the context of international relations and to discuss different forms of anti-Americanism. Starting with the debate about security issues and how they relate to anti-American sentiments in the world, the workshop continued with the US trade policies in South East Asia and Australia and whether these policies had caused negative attitudes towards the US. Another study area addressed the implications of US foreign policy on the national elections, with the case study from Canada. The workshop also looked at the role of influential think tanks and US foundations on anti-Americanism. The final part of the workshop discussed the phenomenon of anti-Americanism in Turkey, Greece and Lithuania.

The workshop was organized within a three-year research project Political Consequences of Anti-Americanism. The main purpose of the workshop was to provide a forum for discussion with an emphasis on a range of lively and informed presentations. The Center for Policy Studies published some research papers on the topic. These are available under Working Papers.
