Discourses and Institutions: Explaining the Longue Durée of Inheritance Law
Studies, the Department of Political Science, and the Department of Public Policy hosted a public lecture by Prof. Dr. Jens Beckert, Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Germany.
Jens Beckert holds a PhD in Sociology and Habilitation from the Free University of Berlin. He has been Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Cologne since 2005. Professor Beckert taught Sociology at Cologne University, Georg August University, Göttingen and the International University, Bremen. His publications include "Unverdientes Vermögen. Soziologie des Erbrechts. Reihe Theorie und Gesellschaft" [In English: "Undeserved Wealth. The Sociology of Inheritance Law."] and "Beyond the Market. The Social Foundations of Economic Efficiency."
At the end of the lecture Professor Beckert was also available for inquiries regarding the PhD programs offered by the Max Planck Institute.
