Visegrad Countries in International Development Cooperation
Center for Policy Studies at CEU was present at the conference on the potential of the Visegrad countries to enhance cooperation concerning international development projects.
The aim of the conference was to map capacities and opportunities for joint activities and programming in international development projects of the Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). The invited panelists and participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas on how to promote the topic of international development cooperation on the agenda in national parliaments and on the broader political agenda in the V4 countries.
The conference consisted of four panels.
Panel Discussion 1: Members of the Parliaments engaging in development cooperation.
The panel offered the opportunity for Members of Parliaments of the four countries to debate ways to enhance the discussion on development cooperation in the National Parliaments.
Panel Discussion 2: Ministries of Foreign Affairs as leaders in national ODA discussions
Space for government representatives and V4 civil society to discuss what has been done in the area of development cooperation among the V4 countries, share best practices and discover future areas of cooperation.
Panel Discussion 3: V4 development cooperation from the perspective of academia
Research findings and conclusions were summed up in this panel by academia representatives. The panelists discussed the potential and challenges of V4 cooperation in development cooperation and provided a brief analysis of the Millennium Development Goals and their present status.
Roundtable: Practical discussions on the future of V4 development cooperation
The closing panel was used to sum up the conference and present the conclusions regarding the potential to cooperate between the four countries as well as the potential to cooperate within countries between the civil, private and public sector.
