Non-Local Workers in Hungarian Automotives. Changing environments for worker mobility and modes of interest formation

CPS researchers Tibor T. Meszmann and Olena Fedyuk wrote a working paper on the research findings of the project on employment of non-local temporary workers in the Hungarian automotive industry.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to define the avenue of non-local workers' interest formation in the changing labour market and production environment of the Hungarian automotive industry. The starting point is to unpack the changing industrial and labour market environment in which employment of non-local workers takes place. Our assessment of non-local worker interest formation is based on research conducted at four research sites with the involvement of non-local workers and trade unions, locations where large automotive supplier multinational enterprises were present. Furthermore, we incorporate our findings into previous local research on geographically mobile workers in Hungary and the formation of their interests and vulnerabilities. Based on these two elements, we propose our own reading of the modes of interest formation among non-local workers.
